Before you come

Pre-tattoo care instructions.

  1. Stay HydratedDrink plenty of water in the days leading up to your tattoo appointment. Proper hydration helps keep your skin in optimal condition.
  2. Avoid Sun ExposureStay out of the sun and avoid tanning beds for at least a week before your appointment. Sunburnt or tanned skin can affect the tattooing process.
  3. MoisturizeKeep your skin well-moisturized in the days before your tattoo. Use a gentle, fragrance-free lotion to ensure your skin is hydrated.
  4. Avoid Alcohol and Blood ThinnersRefrain from consuming alcohol and any blood-thinning medications (like aspirin) 24–48 hours before your appointment. These can increase bleeding and affect the healing process.
  5. Get a Good Night's SleepEnsure you're well-rested before your tattoo appointment. Being well-rested can help you manage the discomfort better and ensure you're alert.
  6. Eat a Healthy MealHave a balanced meal before your session. Eating a healthy meal helps stabilize your blood sugar levels and can make the process more comfortable.
  7. Wear Comfortable ClothingChoose clothing that allows easy access to the area where you're getting tattooed. This will help you stay comfortable throughout the session.
  8. Avoid CaffeineLimit caffeine intake on the day of your appointment, as it can increase your sensitivity and make you more jittery.
  9. Communicate Any ConcernsInform your tattoo artist of any allergies, skin conditions, or medical issues you may have before starting the tattoo.
  10. Follow Pre-Care RecommendationsIf your artist has any specific pre-care recommendations or instructions, be sure to follow them closely.

After care

  1. Keep the Bandage OnLeave the bandage or protective film on for the recommended period, usually 2 to 4 hours for cling wrap or 24 to 48 hours for Saniderm. Don't keep it on longer than necessary to avoid excessive moisture.
  2. Clean GentlyAfter removing the bandage, gently wash the tattooed area with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Avoid scrubbing or rubbing the skin. Air dry.
  3. Avoid Scratching or PeelingDon't scratch, pick, or peel at the tattooed area. Let any scabs or peeling skin fall off naturally.
  4. Keep It DryAvoid soaking the tattoo in water. Opt for showers instead of baths and keep the tattooed area dry.
  5. Avoid Sun Exposure and Tanning BedsKeep the tattoo out of direct sunlight and tanning beds during the healing process. Once healed, use high-quality sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) on the tattoo.
  6. Wear Loose ClothingChoose loose, clean clothing that doesn't rub against the tattoo to prevent irritation.
  7. Avoid Intense ExerciseRefrain from strenuous exercise and saunas during the initial healing period to avoid excessive sweating and friction.
  8. Watch for Infection SignsMonitor the tattooed area for any signs of infection, such as excessive redness, swelling, pus, or intense pain. If you notice any of these symptoms, consult a doctor.
  9. Follow Your Tattoo Artist's InstructionsAdhere to any specific aftercare recommendations provided by your tattoo artist for the best healing results.
